How long are the sessions, and when can they take place?

Counselling sessions are 50 minutes long and usually take place once a week, ideally at the same time.  The earliest sessions available begin at 9 am, the latest begin at 8pm.

Daytime and evening sessions are offered on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Where are the sessions?

Sessions are offered either online, via Zoom, or in-person in Balham, a couple of minutes walk from Tooting Bec Tube. The Balham counselling room is in a building shared with other counselling services.

Initial session

The first session is an opportunity to see what it feels like to work together.  At the end of that session you can decide whether to commit to more sessions, leave it there, or go away and think about it for a few days.

Fixed term or open-ended

If we decide to work together we can agree on a fixed number of sessions or decide to continue on an open-ended basis.

Rates

I charge £20 for the initial session and £60 for every session after that.

Cancellation

I realise it is sometimes hard to fit sessions in, but counselling works better if you can prioritise it for a while and so I ask you to give a minimum of 24 hours notice to cancel, otherwise the full payment will be due unless there are exceptional circumstances, such as severe illness or an emergency situation.

If you are in crisis right now

If you are in a crisis right now and need to talk to somebody immediately there are several options:-

Samaritans offer a 24/7 helpline on 116 123 and you can also email them at jo@samaritans.org

If you live in any of the five of our London boroughs: Kingston, Merton, Richmond, Sutton and Wandsworth and you need mental health support in a crisis you can call their 24/7 Mental Health Crisis Line on 0800 028 8000.

If you or someone close to you is in imminent danger of harming themselves you can go to the nearest hospital Accident and Emergency Department where you can seen by the emergency psychiatrist.
